CONCEPT. Buick Business Concept (2009)

A new round of spy photos shows the production version of Buick’s «Business» MPV, complete with images of the nearly finished interior, plus some new exterior views. Our second set of snapshots followed 6 weeks after we published the first ever images of the prototype people-mover.

CONCEPT. Buick Business Concept (2009)

In April 2009, Buick presented its a??Businessa?? Concept to a global audience at the Shanghai Motor Show. Five months later, prototypes began undergoing testing in the United States. Although first impressions may scream a??minivana?? — show-goers who saw the concept have referred to it as a tall-roof luxury limo.

If a??eleganta?? and a??minivana?? were allowed to be in the same sentence, it would likely be to describe this joint-venture between the Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center and General Motors China. Although designed and engineered for the Chinese market, we can’t help but to wonder if the new GM might actually consider — once again — another Buick entry into the North American minivan segment.

Under the hood is a version of GMa??s mild-hybrid system, mated to a 2.4-liter four-cylinder. This hybrid makes use of lithium-ion batteries for 20 percent better fuel economy than the previous hybrid system. Power is routed to the front wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission. Based on what we witnessed, it is also E85-compatible.

Dubbed the Buick Business Concept, the show car was intended to demonstrate what a Buick-branded MPV would look like. The concept uses flowing lines, which makes for a unique look in the typically bland MPV segment. The car’s kinked beltline will probably spark debate, but actually hides the rear doora??s power sliding mechanism.

Up front, the Business Concept sports Buick signature waterfall grille, flanked by LED headlights. Inside you will find seating for seven and a fairly modern interior, yet lacking by the most modern U.S. Buick standards.

The Business Concept features three-rows of seating, with the second row offering captaina??s chairs. Second-row seats are fully adjustable, including a 225 degree swiveling function. A power sliding center console is available for second and third row passengers and even includes space for laptop computers.
